NEW YEAR FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HUMAN DESIGN
I would like to share with you the Human Design perspective on the New Year. Perhaps it will help you better understand why New Year’s resolutions often don’t work.
In Human Design, the New Year is called the Rave New Year. The word Rave describes an individual as a conscious being in their body – it’s not a celebration with rave music. 🙂
In Human Design, the Sun passes through all 64 gates of the I Ching, the ancient Chinese Book of Wisdom, over the course of a year. When the Sun completes its cycle at Gate 60 and re-enters Gate 41, a new annual cycle of experience begins. In 2026, this happens on January 22 at 02:53:52.
Gate 41 is the gate of new beginnings, located in the Root Center, also called the “initial codon of human experience.” These are the gates of imagination, hope, and inner desire. The true power of these gates is not in rushing forward, but in the realization that something new can only truly begin once the old has been completed.
Most people set their New Year’s resolutions for January 1. This can lead to disappointment because it is not the true new beginning – we are still finishing the previous year. The transits on January 1 are associated with tension, struggle, and provocation.
Many New Year’s resolutions fail, often leaving emotional scars: feelings of unworthiness, lack of willpower, and the sense that one has failed to keep promises.
On that day, the Sun is in Gate 38.1, the gate of struggle – the stress that pushes us to find meaning and value in life. This gate is “deaf,” meaning we are not receptive to suggestions or guidance – the purpose of this deafness is to maintain individuality.
The Earth on the same day is in Gate 39.1 – the gate of provocation, carrying rich emotional energy. Through this gate, we are encouraged to look beyond the obvious.
The last day of the year is often marked by tension, fireworks, and loud noises – this reflects unresolved energy of these gates, also linked to issues with food and overindulgence. The key is awareness: if you feel tense or hungry, simply observe and breathe.
The 4 Phases of the Rave New Year
The transition into the New Year is not a single moment, but a process through four key phases:
Phase 1
The Struggle for Meaning
Gate 38- What have I been struggling for?
- Was my energy really directed at the right things?
Phase 2
Ambition and Growth
Gate 54
Jan 5–10, 2026
- What ambitions are calling me?
- Which collaborations support my growth?
Phase 3
Inner Truth, “Aha” Moments
Gate 61
Jan 11–15, 2026
- What is truly real for me?
- What finally makes sense?
Phase 4
Acceptance of Limits
Gate 60
Jan 16–21, 2026
- What must I accept to feel free?
- Which illusions is it time to release?
- What desire truly lives within me?
- What wants to mature through experience, not control?
Human Design teaches us that growth does not happen overnight. It unfolds through cycles, waves, and phases when we listen to the body, not just the mind.
I wish you a conscious, joyful, and playful transition into 2026.
